The Design Story
bhigate pahaadBhigate PahaadPrem Devi wove this rug during the monsoon. Living on a hill, she says, this is the time when everything around her changes. The dry surfaces turn soft, the mountains deepen in colour, and every part of the view feels alive. This rug comes from that season. You can see water moving through the mountains—falling, spreading, and gathering. The mountains are not fixed shapes, but surfaces where water flows and shifts. There are hints of leaves and trees, and small marks that feel like droplets, scattered across the rug. Nothing stays still. She has also used calmer colours that blend into each other. It feels less like a single scene and more like a moment that keeps changing. For her, this is the best time to be at home. To sit and watch the rain move across the mountains, again and again. She named this rug after this scene, ‘Bhigate Pahaad’, meaning ‘Drenched Mountains’.
