Mili Juli or mix-match is a perfect example of how different elements can be combined to weave a story that speaks for itself. In her rug, Shanti weaved a small nursery that has all the flowers, flower pots and trees that surrounds her in her village. The rug is a take on creativity and simplicity by amalgamating different colors of nature.

After getting inspired from diamonds, Shanti weaved the rug by imagining a life beneath the ground surface, where a diamond takes its shape. She surrounded the diamond with flowers and petals, the way she is often surrounded by them. She also weaved a path through which the diamond can reach the house of the customer owning the rug.

This is the first Manchaha rug made by weaver Shanti and it has been a great learning experience for her, she says. She tried several designs and then modified them when they didn't turn out well. She started her rug with a diya at the bottom, as is the standard practice before starting something new. She weaved a lot of elements in her rug including her favourite – the big shakarpara at the top. She thinks it is makes the rug well balanced and structured and enhances the overall colour scheme of the carpet. She also made a lot of animals, including a peacock onto the rug. She has never seen a real peacock, just pictures. Still, she experimented with weaving a peacock and it turned out really well. That’s why she decided to name her carpet 'mor', which translates to peacock.

‘Mera Gaaon’ or my village is a reflection of Shanti’s imagination while weaving this rug. “I weaved a landscape of my village. I weaved a bee hive that is right near my loom at the village. I also weaved a dog that protects my house and a little blue elephant with a heart on its trunk to spread joys and love to the house of the customer,” says Shanti with a smile. The rug is truly mesmerizing and the detailing of the design is just enough to catch anyone’s attention.
