The Design Story
akasmaatAkasmaatArtists often let their minds and hearts flow through their hands, creating something entirely new. Sonu and Ashok, seasoned weavers in the Alwar jail workshop, embody this artistic spirit. When they first began weaving Manchaha rugs, the initial steps seemed very difficult. The overthinking—what to weave, how to weave—felt like an enemy, capturing their minds. However, over the years, they learned that creating with an open heart is the key. When the mind is clear, a creative force takes over, guiding the process naturally. While working on their latest Manchaha, Sonu and Ashok experienced this creative flow. Initially, they were unsure, making random designs that appeared scattered. But as they synced up and let their hearts lead, a pattern of colorful waves began to emerge, with colors exchanging fluidly. When asked about their design choices, they said they just knew from within. As they progressed, the carpet evolved into two distinct parts. Sonu, on the right, wove a sky with blue yarns, while Ashok, on the left, used calm colors to create a ground with blossoming flowers. This division reflected their individual inspirations and led them to name the rug "Akasmaat," meaning "unexpected." Through this process, they rediscovered the joy of creation and the importance of trusting their inner artistic drive.
