Tutata Taara
Who is not fascinated by the falling star? Maali, Mamta, and Laali have weaved a falling star on their hand-knotted rug. Their Manchaha rug is named ‘Tutata Taara’, which literally means the falling star. One can see a line in the middle of the carpet, which resembles a shooting star. Initially, they weaved leaves, flowers, biscuits, stripes, and lines. Mamta has a green thumb and has weaved little pots in which she grows her plants. During the monsoons, they weaved the carpet and so weaved ‘Lehereiya’ into the carpet. Many designs continued as their minds wandered, but one special element that crossed their mind stayed with them- the shooting star or, in their language, “Tutata Taara.”
