The design elements of this rug are inspired by Leheriya, a popular Rajasthani textile pattern. The colorful stripes seen across the rug are inspired by this popular textile pattern. These stripes are made within triangle like structures, which is inspired by Shakkarpara, a popular breakfast snack. To compliment these strips, Bugali has also taken inspiration from nature. Wanting her rug to bloom as a flower does, the weaver has woven flowers. The weaver says, “Just as a leaf beautifies the tree; the leaves on my rug will beautify your home”.

The rug has been intricately designed by Bugali to create a pattern that is distinguished and unique. The triangular patterns symbolize a kite or patang that inspires her to fly higher in life. The patterns above denote a sky that is full of several such kites. The design is a perfect amalgamation of modern aesthetics and traditional festivities.

Bugali has a talent to bring out symmetry in the design through asymmetry. In her rug, one can clearly see three columns, in which the first column is exactly like the third column. Beautifully creating wave like patterns on the top of the rug, to mountain like structures at the bottom, she brings her village surroundings to life. With an intricate design sense and affection to create detailed designs, Bugali calls her rug Aage Aage, which means forward in Hindi, as she got inspired from the fast-forward button (>>) that she saw on a tape recorder in one of her uncles’ house.

‘Rangeen Pahadi’ translates to Colourful Mountains. It’s a postcard designed by Bugali that share the story when she travelled on a pilgrimage to the shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Punjab, considered one of the most revered journeys in Indian religious practice. The colours she used in this rug represent the colours of the shrine and she used abstract patterns in segments to display the breaking tones decorating the building. She has also added hints to trigger the memory of the mountains using patterns on a flowing river.
