Headquartered in Jaipur and working with artisans spread across five Indian states, the company holds a branch in the United States called Jaipur Living. Through its worldwide distribution network, its rugs reach more than 60 countries around the world, from Milan to Paris, Beijing and Moscow.

Founded in 1978 by NK Chaudhary, Jaipur Rugs revolutionized the carpet industry by creating an entirely new business model – working directly with artisans and empowering them and their communities with a sustainable livelihood.

Jaipur Rugs is a family business. The founder NK Chaudhary is the company’s president, while each of his children have their own responsibilities and areas of expertise. The eldest daughters Asha and Archana are CEO and COO of Jaipur Living in the US. In India, Kavita the middle-child is the Design Director with her own label 'Kavi', while his son Yogesh is the Director of Sales & Marketing. The youngest, Nitesh is the Director of Supply Chain & IT working with both the US and India team.

1978

Nand Kishore Chaudhary (NKC) gave up a bank job and borrowed Rs. 5000 from his father to start his carpet business. The journey began with 2 looms, 9 weavers and one scooter in Rajasthan.

1986

NKC starts to export his rugs directly, thus taking the first step towards his dream of connecting artisans to global markets.

1992

The Government of India grants the company the rare privilege of using walkie-talkies to coordinate the work if artisans in rural areas.

1999

After working for over twenty years in Gujarat, NK Chaudary comes back to Jaipur and officially names his business as Jaipur Carpets.

2000

A sister company is born in the USA to distribute the products in the North American market.

2006

The company receives the prestigious “America’s Magnificient Carpet Award”.

2004

Jaipur Rugs Foundation was set up under the Rajasthan Public trust Act, as a body within the Jaipur family that worked to make artisans happy.

2007

Jaipur Rugs facilitates the work of 40,000 artisans across India by providing them with a digital interface.

2008

Jaipur Rugs doubles its showroom space in Jaipur, blessed with an increasing business curve.

2013

Jaipur Rugs makes the cover of Outlook Business, one of India’s most prestigious business magazines.

2016

The company begins to sell its carpets in the local market.

2018

Jaipur Rugs wins two German Design Awards with weaver turned designer Bimla Devi and Design Director Kavita Chaudhary.

2020

Opening of the flagship store in Mumbai and Jaipur. Jaipur Rugs wins three Carpet Design Awards, Archiproducts Award, and Edida Award.

Today, Jaipur Rugs is a global leader in the rug-making business and a living example of how, by combining strong values with unrivaled products, a company can create both economic and humanitarian benefit for everyone.
