The rug motifs are inspired by vibrantly patterned household articles. One day when the weavers were sitting out on their porch on a summer night they got the idea to weave a yellow and pumpkin background on the rug taken from the family blanket. The design also depicts dark red and black motifs against pumpkin background seen on the design made on the wall of their house, around the door and moon like motifs drawn from the design of the pots.

She decided to name her rug Chowkri-dichana which means to sit crossed-legged on the floor since the weavers discussed about their design on the rug with children sitting in this position. This symbolizes the quality time they spent with family alongside their work of weaving. The rug motifs have taken inspiration from varied household articles, whose vibrant patterns have been dearly liked by this family.

The rug motifs have taken inspiration from varied elements of their village life. Patterns inspired by saree (an Indian drape worn by women in village), Shakarpara (popular village snack) and Roshandan, a combined skylight and ventilating window, found their way on woven rugs. The motifs are also inspired by the design on the wall of the family home, around the door and the design on a khatiya, a cot, in their home.

Taking inspiration from their children’s textbook of mathematics, the couple-weaver duo has named their rug, ‘Trikonmiti’, which means Trigonometry in Hindi. It is fascinating for them to see how the angles, shapes and formulas come together to create patterns. They have recreated these geometrical designs on the rug. They have taken the design idea from Kalash, an earthen pot found in village home, to weave the center of the rug.
