The Design Story

kala ki leher

Kala ki Leher
Madhu learned weaving by watching her mother weave every day. Now, she teaches her own daughter, Manisha. This Manchaha rug emerged from Madhu and Manisha’s quiet afternoons spent weaving together, one teaching, the other learning. The whole rug is divided into many ‘leheriya’ (wavy) patterns, and each division includes intricate traditional motifs like delicate flowers and tiny borders. These are the motifs cherished by Madhu’s mother. Manisha approached these with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. The rug became a vessel for something invaluable, a craft, a memory, a shared journey. When the rug was finished, Madhu and Manisha named it “Kala ki Leher” (Wave of Art).
