The Design Story
shantiShantiWhen Ramkali, Taravati, Sarnam, and Anjani saw the blue yarns laid out for their Manchaha, it instantly brought them joy. Blue was the color of their favorite season—monsoon. Without a second thought, they decided their rug would carry the essence of those rains. They didn’t follow a strict pattern. Instead, they wove freely, blending different shades of blue, letting the threads flow like water. The abstract design became a reflection of their own emotions. The weavers shared that this rug instantly became their companion. Everyday, they would sit on the loom and the blue yarns gave them peace. They would talk about their routine life, happiness, and sorrows of every day, and feel at peace at the end of the day. When the rug was finally complete, the name ‘Shanti’ (Peace) came naturally to them. The weavers say that in this world everyone is looking for a moment of peace and they hope that this rug brings peace to whoever welcomes it into their home.
