Santosh from Itawa, Rajasthan is a 35 year old weaver who is driven by creativity and curiosity. During her childhood, she learned weaving rugs from her uncle though her parents always suggested that she focus on her studies. That loom at her uncle’s house caught her heart’s attention though. Her journey with the loom started once more after marriage and it’s been 5 years since. She is a proud mother of two daughters and a son in school, and she wishes to see them working in a big company someday.
SaawanIndia is known as the land of festivals. One evident example is the tradition where a whole month is dedicated to the feeling of joy, greenery and celebration, called ‘Saawan’. It means monsoon, and the celebrations start as the season’s rain begins. Santosh wove this Manchaha during this season of celebration. The entire village was in the mood of celebration, and carrying that excitement and energetic vibe, she wove in layers of beautiful flowery lines, with colours sprinkled that brings the season’s festivity with it.
