Strong and independent, Lali has been weaving since the age of 12, soon after she lost both her parents. Since then, weaving rugs has been her escape which has helped her attain livelihood. “I’ve been weaving rugs for about 30 years – almost all my life – and this has allowed me to be the breadwinner for my family and give a better life to my six children,” Lali beamed proudly.
Meri Beti PriyankaWith the rug ‘Meri Beti Priyanka,’ weaver Lali incorporated incorporated flowers, petals, stripes, and other things she observed in her surroundings. Whether it be the local flowers of her Kekri Village, or the colours of the sunrise, she has tried to include everything she could to embody her village and her life. The small joys of her life in the village are depicted beautifully in the motifs of this rug, which she has dedicated to her daughter Priyanka.
