Meena is a weaver turned designer from a small village of Dhanota in Rajasthan. She has inherited the art of rug weaving from her parents and has been weaving rugs from past 10 years now. Meena is very shy and reticent by nature and you would barely see her gossiping in the village. She believes in doing her own karma and utilizes her full energy in making beautiful designs on the carpet.
Pankhuri“I was very confused initially, so I didn’t start the work for two days but then once it started, there was no looking back, I went on and on and the design got completed even before- time”, explains Meena with a shy smile. She wanted her rug to be named, Pankhuri because of two reasons: reason number one being the fact that her daughter’s name is Pankhuri and secondly, she weaved various Pankhuri or feathers in her rug hence, the name Pankhuri. Indeed, the rug is inspired from various flowers and feathers that surround Meena at her village.
