Gyrashi is 39 years old and from Aaspura, Rajasthan. She has been weaving for the past 20 years and enjoys sewing too. Her husband works as a sculptor, so it’s like art runs in their blood. She has two children that are in college and she aspires them to make a career of their own. Since she spends her time weaving alone, she works on Manchahas to express herself and map carpets when she wants to focus and think. On top of all this, she enjoys singing bhajans (prayer songs) while she weaves. She believes it adds divinity to all her carpets which stays within its knots through its life.
Basant ki barsaat
‘Basant ki barsaat’ means spring rain. It is how Gyarshi describes the range of patterns she wove on her second Manchaha. She wove in many different wave patterns, with rows of flowers and traditional motifs. The colours on this rug are also greatly varying that also remind of the changing season. It seems like a perfect representation of spring rain; its subtle markings standing out in the haziness of the rain. Gyarshi is proud of her work and wove in her name, to be remembered for her work of art.
