Manju is 35 years old and has been weaving rugs from past 10 years now. “Earlier it was a hobby, I enjoyed weaving along with my mother and soon it became my work and passion”, she says with a smile. She is a mother of two boys and two girls and her entire family is a great admirer of her cooking abilities. If you have any plans to visit Samarthpura village in Rajasthan, don’t forget to meet our designer and chef, Manju.
JanglaTranslating to ‘window’ in Marwadi, the rug’s design offers us a peek into the view from Manju’s kitchen, and the things that she sees through it—the goat, road, people, trees, and a temple which receives many worshippers. The bell in the temple, deftly woven into the rug, is a special detail as it acts as her clock and reminds her of what she needs to do in her day-to-day chores and responsibilities.
