Saroj is 26 years old and has been associated with Jaipur Rugs from past two years. She is an inhabitant in the village of Med in Rajasthan and thoroughly enjoys weaving rugs. If you plan to visit Saroj, here’s a good news- You won’t ever have to ask her to say “cheese” for a photograph. She is one of those rare gems who always smile and make others smile too.
Ulat-Palat“I experimented by using various elements in one frame and the result has come out to be really beautiful”, explains Saroj with sheer confidence and vivacity. The rug Ulat-Plat or disarray has been handcrafted with love to bring out the best of nature and life. Saroj weaved oranges, tea cups, Indian sweets, a temple and almost everything…. most interestingly, she weaved roads and directions that lead to her mother’s home in Pratapgarh! The rug is a creative canvas of the mixed thoughts and feelings that were running inside the weaver’s mind at the time of weaving the rug.
