Surji belongs to Dhanota in Rajasthan and lives with her family consisting of her husband and four children; three girls and one boy. At 40 years of age and a full house to manage, it’s astonishing but not surprising to know that she’s been weaving for the past 20 years, the last 4 of which have been with Jaipur Rugs. Even though her husband is a medical lab technician, Surji enjoys the financial independence of making money on her own at home. It provides for even more support of her family’s wellbeing.
Phoolon ki ChaadarThe roadside flowery fields of villages in Rajasthan inspired the woven design of this rug. Pinks and Yellows, Greens and Purples fill this rug from top to bottom and make it look like a spread made of nothing but flowers. The lowermost part of this rug features vivid blocks of colors and adds a tint of bright color to the overall look of this rug. Due to its floral look and design, this rug is aptly named as, “Phoolon ki Chaadar”.
