Santosh is a weaver who lives in the Shahpura village of Rajasthan with her sons, daughters and husband. She has been weaving intricate rugs since the last thirty years and she has also won notable awards for the same.
Rang MelaA representation of the annual village fest or “Mela” is the sole inspiration behind this rug’s colorful artistry. The first time Santosh visited the village fest, she wasn’t just surprised but also in love with the different colors of swings, toys and traditional art forms that she saw in the village. Using her imagination, she replicated all the sights that she saw there into this rug which features so many different elements, some small and some big in different colors. The square shaped figures have been woven to look like shiny kites that the villagers fly during the fest, while the vertical wall hangings have been woven on the topmost part of the rug.
