Residing in a family of 6 people with 1 goat in Aaspura, Rajasthan, Dhafali’s life revolves around weaving and being a homemaker. A true preserver of weaving art, the entire family knows how to weave. Though, uneducated herself, Dhafali has ensured good education for all her 3 children and proudly shared that the best moment of her life was when her eldest son became a teacher in a Government school.
Dhafali has once again put forth her childlike whimsy into her rug, Paani, which means water. She starts the rug with waves from an ocean she’s only heard of, but hopes to experience one day. The multiple colors representing the individual waves emerging from the horizon, create a sense of motion, the start of a journey through her mind the past 4 months. She has placed candle diyas and biscuits at the border of her ocean, reflecting the things she loves, the light of positivity and her children. She then filled the rug with inspirations such as a necklace from a magazine she perused, a honeycomb she found in her yard, a diagonal checkered pattern, symbolic of the leheriya pattern she loves so much, Bajra Kichhidi (a dish made of pearl millet), and finally a ribbon that runs through the rug symbolizing the road to Jaipur Rugs headquarters, complete with traffic, including her husband’s white motorbike. Leher is a colorful amalgamation of thoughts and dreams that play a daily part in Dhafali’s life
