Rekha has been weaving for more than 10 years. She lives in the village Dhanota along with her husband and her 4 year old daughter. She is a shy person and feels scared with the thought of stepping out of her home to work. She shares that weaving has transformed her life because she has a loom inside the house and she is excited at the prospect of creating more of her own rug designs. Her husband, who is a laborer earns humbly and she believes that through her financial contribution her daughter will move towards a better future.
Rekha, encouraged by her neighbor, has designed this rug turning to various elements of village life for inspiration. The floral motifs are inspired by flowers that bloom in her father’s garden. This nature view is further elaborated on by weaver who has woven small leaves and plant motifs, all connected by a thread like design. This connecting thread in the design represents her connection to the elements around her and her attempt to weave her life against all odds. She has also woven a design which is commonly sheared on the camel’s body in villages.
