A weaver by passion, Suman from Aaspura, has been weaving for Jaipur Rugs since the past 10 years. Suman has two kids and a husband who works as a daily wage earner. Not having had an education herself, Suman asserts on educating her kids and her 4 year old son has just started going to school.
This creation is enchanting with all the quirks Weaver Designer Suman has added to it. There are boxes, classic Rajasthani Leheriya pattern and beautiful butterflies – all present on the rug. Also it was Diwali time when Suman started weaving this rug hence she took a note of whatever was happening around and included all Diwali elements on the rug. Hence one finds motifs like Diyas ( small clay and oil lamps) and candles and Indian crackers like Tikdi weaved on the rug. Bordering the rug is a chain pattern, from where the rug gets its name “Badi chain” (long chain). Furthermore, she has innocuously woven her own phone number into the rug however she criticizes herself for making that choice.
