Sisters Guddi (25) and Suman (27) have learnt the art of rug weaving from their mother. The sisters never got along when they were younger, but once they started weaving together their chemistry has improved a great deal. They like creating new and interesting patterns on the loom and the designs just come to them naturally when they sit and weave together. Both of them say that they love weaving the lehariya pattern on their rugs.
Gaon ki duniyaWith the rug Gaon ki duniya sisters Guddi Devi and Suman have tried to weave the various elements from their world in the village onto the rug. The loom is like a canvas to them where they express the little things in their life. The rug displays the colours of the landscape in their village, the flowers and shrubs from the fields and the ever present lehariya motif. As a treat for their hard work they have woven the shakarpara – their favourite evening snack. Some of the inspiration of the design has come from Guddi’s husband, who gives new ideas to the sisters from time to time.
