Saroj lives in Shahpura region in Rajasthan. After her husband passed away a few years back, she became the sole bread earner of her family, supporting her 2 children who study in school. Making her first Manchaha opened up her mind, and she believes that it has helped her gain confidence in her abilities.
BeladiSaroj’s rug is all about her diverse experiences of day to day life. Having lost her husband a few years back, it was a big challenge for her to get back on her feet. When she got to make her first design, her family and the neighbors were skeptical of her abilities. But kept believing in herself, and kept on weaving the design patiently. She made plants of various sizes, flowers of Beladi, patang(kite) and shakkarpara pattern on the rug. Her changing design represents the many thoughts that crossed her mind while making the rug. Finally, after 2 months, she completed the rug, and celebrated the proud moment by eating a ‘rasgulla’, which is her favorite sweet.
