Sanju, a young weaver from the village Divrala, lives with her parents, 5 sisters, 1 brother and 2 goats. She is the pampered child of the family and shares a deep bonding with her mother. She is in the second year of the bachelor’s degree course and her favorite subject is Sanskrit.
Sanju, encouraged by her mother, Meera, has designed this rug turning to her family members for inspiration. She calls her rug ‘Kutumb’ which means home. The pattern in the center depicts a daughter’s love as she writes ‘Papa’ in Hindi. Names of Sanju’s mother and siblings find their way on the rug and this is her gift to them. Unsure about what design would look best, she began with lighter tones of blue and as her confidence in her own ability evolved the pattern on the rug became more defined.
