Manju and Anju are sisters who belong to Aaspura village in Rajasthan. They both got married in the same family, and are living there together. Both of them are mothers to 2 children-a son and a daughter. Manju’s husband is a landlord, while Anju’s husband works as a mason in the village. They got the art of rug-weaving from their mother, and are proudly carrying the legacy forward in their new families.
Filmy SitaraTwo real sisters, Manju and Anju sat together to make their first original design. They both started with a blank mind, and let their imaginations flow. “When we started, we were not confident about our designs, but as we progressed, our confidence grew”, says Manju. They made small water pots to start with, and then added a variety of flowers and leaves that they saw in their surroundings. Manju made her ‘Mangalsutra’ in the left side of the rug. They further made ferry lights which they used to decorate their house with in Diwali, and studded them with stars of different colors and patterns. They call the rug ‘Filmy Sitara’, as their rug is studded with colors and patterns of stars and dazzling lights.
