Prem is a 36 years-old weaver from Tevdi, Rajasthan. She has been weaving for the last 8 years with her sister, Hansa, who is married into the same house. She learnt to weave from her cousin. Prem says that she never enjoyed copying designs from a rug map, and hence, making a Manchaha was a dream come true for her as she could weave her own designs into it. Since Prem hasn’t gone to school, she didn’t know how to refer to the colours she wanted for the rug, she keeps a small piece of yarn to describe the colours she wants for her rugs. She is a mother to two kids, Prakash and Sonu.
PrakashThe rug is woven in yellow, a colour that reminds her of sunshine, light, and brightness. The rug is named after her first child, Prakash, who Prem was blessed with after many years of marriage. Hence, she named her first Manchaha after it as she says it has also brought light to her life. The design incorporate elements of mehendi and motifs like dates, mountains, and earth, things that Prem is surrounded by.
