Lakshmi is 35 years old and has been weaving rugs from past20 years now. She is a mother of 3 children- two girls and one boy. Her children she says, supports her and motivates her to do better in life. They consider their mother to be an artist and are a big fan of the art that she creates.
Bharat Ka Naksha
Laxmi always makes sure to weave her name in all her Manchaha Rugs. She doesn't know how to hold a pen but being able to weave her name in English, as taught by her kids, gives her a sense of immense pride and accomplishment. This rug with flowing patterns has a lot of elements that are around Lakshmi's home. Her favorite of all the elements is the map of India which she saw in her kid's book and weaved in the center of the rug. She was very skeptical about whether to weave a map on the rug or not. But then she decided to weave as she was not disrespecting but showing her love towards the country through her art. She also weaved a black tree at the top. This is how a tree looks when it's dark in their village. She completed her rug with a little mandir at the top of the rug.
