Mamta is a 35 year old artisan from Manpura, Rajasthan. She has been weaving for the last 10 years, her sister-in-law playing the role of her teacher; both in sharing life lessons and weaving. As a weaver she is very passionate about the art. Her choice of colour gives her rugs an upper hand. All her fellow weavers always consult her regarding the composition of colours she uses, trying to learn how to tackle the Manchaha one day. Mamta and her evolution with the contemporary makes her rugs unique and appealing. She says, “We should all keep learning new things, just like my 2 children do.”
Jaadu, Rangon kaMamta the magician of colours, decided to choose subtle colours which she thought was out of her comfort zone. But her knack for extraordinary colour balance made her depict the mountains, plants, the sky, the fields, in essence the entire rural India beautifully. Mamta says that colours for her were just red, blue and green, and then weaving gave her an opportunity to see the shades which were unseen. Jaadu, Rangon ka means the magic of colours. Take this magic of colours and patterns away, let your space experiment a new way.
