Sapna is a 35 years-old weaver from Kaled, Rajasthan. She is an extremely passionate weaver and is the only member in her family who earns a living from weaving carpets. She is usually engrossed in looking after her family and works on carpets when looms nearby need a helping hand.
Christmas ka ped‘Christmas ka ped’ means Christmas tree, which Sapna has woven quite boldly in her Manchaha. She’s never had the chance to experience Christmas, but she’s seen small bits of it on the TV. She’s so used to celebrating Diwali and always wanted to try the other decorations to see what it would look like in her house. In her Manchaha she’s created in an array of patterns, her own interpretation of the Christmas spirit. There are streamers, pots, flowers, diamonds, making this rug into a celebration of a global festival in a corner of rural India.
