Banarasi is a 35 year-old weaver from Samarthapura, Rajasthan. She has an extensive experience of 20 years in weaving and has developed a style of weaving patterns she likes so as to never forget them. Banarasi says that she has had extremely supportive men in her life, from her father and brother to her husband who works in a dairy. Banarasi has no children of her own but is very close to her sister-in-law’s kids. She loves children and hopes to have her own someday.
Bhai DoojDesigned much in her style to preserve memories through patterns, this rug features the design of a saree her sister-in-law had gifted her on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, a festival where the brother celebrates and pays respect to the sister. That sari has now gotten old, so she uses it to cover the cot outside the house. But Banarasi liked the sari a lot and she wore it till it got worn out. Now, by weaving its unique design into the rug, she made sure that it remains a part of her life always.
