Kamali has been a weaver with Jaipur Rugs family from last 9 years. She is a mother to 3 boys who are now attending school, a wife of a mason and a caretaker of 3 goats. When she is not weaving, Kamali likes to attend Satsang (spiritual preaching sessions), where she also offers to help through cutting grass. Deewar is one of her many self-designed rugs where she has used her favorite colours
Life within the four walls of her house worked miraculously in favour of Kamali’s design. Combined with other impressions, it translated into ‘Deewar’, which means walls in Hindi. The rug can be seen as an artistic walkthrough. It begins with the patterns of her bathroom tiles and extends to the brick walls of her house. The design in the center depicts the Rangoli (a traditional art for floor) that she draws in her courtyard. After acutely observing the beauty in everyday elements, Kamali wove them together into a beautiful composition.
To the owner of the rug “Each rug I create is like my child. Please take care of it.”
