Keshri is a 50 years-old weaver from Kharkada, Rajasthan who learnt rug-weaving from her uncle. She has been with the Jaipur Rugs family for over 2 years. Her favourite colours are red and purple and she loves to eat gulab jamun (an Indian sweet). Keshri is a mother to four children, a son and three daughters.
Kam-ZyadaThe rug is a brilliant example of the creative flexibility of weavers, and Keshri is no different. She wanted to weave the Manchaha in red and pink but couldn’t find them. She had the colour blue and went ahead to make weave blue roses while also trying to balance the colours with a little bit of this and more of that (hence the name ‘kam zyaada’ which literally translates to ‘a little-a lot’). She has also woven in the painting of a vase and flowers in her house in this rich blue colour that attracts every eye at the very first glance. The rug’s design is very organised and mature, reflecting Keshri’s prolonged expertise in the craft.
