Sonia is 27 years of age and she lives in the serene village, Aaspura. Her husband is a laborer and they have 3 children. She has been weaving since the past 15 years and believes that her association with Jaipur Rugs, since the past 6 years, has changed her life in many ways because she can now read, write and can support her husband with her income.
The design is inspired by a photograph which the designer weaver, Sonia, purchased in a local fair. Sonia is a religious person and she attends this fair every year, which is organized to celebrate the power of Indian Goddesses. She had decided that this year when she goes for the fair, she will get her design inspiration from there. Her rug features many ‘Kalash’ which is an earthen pot, used to offer pure water to the Goddess. The center of the rug is adorned with tomb shaped motifs that are usually seen on temple tops. The rug features four beautiful bungalows, called ‘Bangla’ in Hindi, which she believes are a representation of her pure home, blessed by the Goddess.
