Dhafali (40) from Dhanota village has been weaving from the past 10 years. Her husband was in the army but he has been out of work from the past 10 years. Dhafali is the only breadwinner in the family. She takes care of her kids – three kids, two daughters, and one son. Madhu, one of Dhafali Devi’s daughters, helps her in weaving in her free time or on her vacation.
AtrangiThe rug is a splendid story of mother-daughter bonding and creating an incredible work of art. Madhu’s mother Dhafali Devi was not very sure of what she wanted to weave as her first Manchaha. Madhu, was on vacation and she took it upon herself to encourage her mother to weave an intricate design for her first Manchaha. The rug is a melting pot of things that one sees in the village – flowers, petals, earthen pots, crosses and the ever present lehariya pattern.
