Gulabi has been weaving since childhood. What started as a way of dealing with a financial crisis at her home later on went to become a passion. When she was married into an affluent family, her husband asked her to stop weaving and lead an easy life. Gulabi says with pride that weaving has now become an important part of her life which she cannot do without. A true preserver of art.
Gulabi draws design inspiration from elements surrounding her life at the village such flowers blooming in her garden and village snacks. Gulabi weaves roses as a signature to her name because this is the meaning of her name. To further compliment these flowers, she makes leaves like motifs on the rug. She names her rug ‘Phool-Patti’ which means flowers and leaves. The diamond shaped motifs are inspired by Shakkarpara, a popular village snack. Gulabi has also woven heart shaped designs on the rug symbolizing her love for her husband who works in a far off city called Mumbai and how much she misses him. The designer weaver has chosen colours at random by her instincts to weave this beautiful rug.
To the owner of this rugI have used my favourite colours to make this rug. I hope you like it”.
