Sumitra is 40 years old and has been weaving from past 20 years. She is a mother of two girls and one boy and takes pride in sending her kids to school. When asked where you learned weaving from, she laughed and said, “There was some government program that was happening in our village to promote employment and I was always curious to learn something new. That workshop taught me the art of weaving rugs”, she says flaunting her certificate that she got at the workshop. She shows it to everyone without a fail.
AandhiThe weather conditions in Rajasthan’s villages are harsh and that was the main idea behind this rug. The rug depicts the dust storm that hit the villages in summer. The twigs, dried leaves and sand float around creating an aura of complete overcast and grey. Nobody would ever wonder that inspiration can be found at a sand storm!
