Mamta lives in Karana village in Rajasthan with her family. She has 4 children-two daughters and two sons. All of them study in school. Her husband works as a mason in the village. She has been weaving rugs since past 8 years. She loves rug-weaving as it gives her the freedom to express her ideas and also enables her to afford education for her children.
GharWhile designing this rug, Mamta took inspiration from her surroundings. The mundane aspects of the village life find their own interpretation in her design. The rug shows a house surrounded by various elements like leaves, flowers, wavy motifs that she sees in her sarees. On two sides at the center of the rug, she has woven the ceremony rituals that are performed in her village, with a flower placed at the center of it. It took her one month to complete the rug. She calls her rug ‘Ghar’, meaning house-a place where she finds the world in her family.
