Prem belongs to Barmada village of Rajasthan and lives with her family consisting of her husband and four children; two boys and two girls. At 35 years of age and a full house to manage, it’s astonishing but not surprising to know that she’s been weaving for the past 12 years, the last 4 of which have been with Jaipur Rugs. Prem enjoys the financial independence of making money on her own at home. It provides for even more support of her family’s wellbeing.
Saraswati Ka AashirvadWhen Prem had the opportunity to create her own rug from the ground up, she chose the traditional festive décor and pattern that would provide a visual kick without the need overcomplicate the design. As a token of thanks, she suggested the rug to be named, Saraswati Ka Aashirvad or the blessing of Goddess Saraswati who is the Indian goddess of knowledge and wisdom. She decided to use the firecrackers and local bandarwal pattern in her rug because of its unique symmetry. She also ensured that her design look similar to maintain the aesthetics. She’s very happy to have made this rug and is proud to know that her hard work will be a piece of art for someone’s home.
