One of our master weavers-turned-Manchaha designer, Shushila is a 35 years-old weaver from Karana in Rajasthan with an experience of 17 years in weaving. She is well-versed with everything a carpet-weaver needs to know about the craft, which is why Jaipur Rugs is keen on honoring her with the title of being a Bunkar Sakhi so that she can mentor and guide younger weavers. She is a born leader and easily takes charge in the absence of the quality supervisor. She is also a mother of three children, and an adept multi-tasker.
Corona ka SathiShushila was commissioned to weave this Manchaha during the early months of severe lockdown in her village. Given the isolation in a village that thrives of communication and unity, the sudden cessation meant staying indoors and keeping oneself occupied in indoor activities and games. This is what Shushila’s Manchaha ‘Corona ka Sathi’ is inspired from as she has woven in different indoor activities as well as trees and flowers to express how she misses the outdoors. The rug’s mature design blueprint truly reflects her elaborate knowledge of weaving.
