Hansa and Rekha are joyful weavers residing in the Thanagazi village of Rajasthan. Their woven art is inspired by the beautiful things that they see on the village television and sometimes, in real life. Both of them have been weaving rugs since the last 8 years and thoroughly enjoy the process of doing so. They live with their families and love to weave rugs every day.
Gubbare ki SawaariRekha and Hansa Devi drew inspiration for designing this rug after watching a Bollywood movie scene wherein they saw the actor riding in a huge parachute, which they aptly call “Bada Gubbara”. They imagined the views that would be visible from the sky and put them all into this rug, thread by thread. To make the rug look lively, they filled the middle part of the rug with different hued balloons, some big, some small. The scenery on the top and bottom part of the rug is inspired by the crops that the village farmers grow in pieces of land and how they would look when viewed from the daytime skies.
