A group of four young and talented weavers, sisters Madhu, Manisha, Asha and Bhagwati are from Sakray, Rajasthan. They are all in their 20’s and have woven their first Manchaha rug together in a creative collaboration that brings to life all their individual eccentricities as well as distinct ideas.
ChowkdiThe rug is a presentation of the four weaver sisters’ greatest strength: their bond. Meaning ‘group of four people’, the rug is divided into four parts. It carries each of their personalities in its patterns and the flow of the design, visible by their age and skill. The youngest has a still-developing design sensibility that is raw, which then becomes a little more mature with the older sister’s inputs. The second oldest sister brings in janjeera, intricate flower patterns and jhoomar (chandelier) motifs. The eldest sister has woven in the round pattern. The rug is woven in a consistent yet striking colour palette.
