Maya is 30 years old and is an inhabitant at the Samarthpura village of Rajasthan. She has been weaving rugs from past 11 years now and has inherited the skills from her mother. She loves cooking food and spending time at her farm in the village. She is a proud mother of one girls and one boy, both of them are school goers.
VikasArtisan Maya was delighted to weave twin carpets at the same time on her loom. She named one of her carpets as ‘Vikas’ which means development, while the other one was named ‘Aakash’ which means the sky. She weaved them with utmost love and affection. “It was interesting to weave two different rugs togtehr, I kept the colors different and made similar patterns so that they resemble each other. For me, both are equally important,” she says with a sweet smile on her face. She colored Vikas with the shades of orange and yellow to depict brightness and prosperity. She also weaved beautiful flowers and parrots to ensure that the development does not happen at the cost of Mother Nature.
