Harinarayan and his wife Champa are a happy couple, with 2 daughters, a son, 5 goats and 2 baby goats in their home at Aaspura village of Rajasthan. While the eldest daughter is married, the younger children are pursuing BA in education. Although Champa had to stay home for her brothers to be able to go she is glad to have been able to provide education to her daughters. The couple has been weaving for more than 2 decades now but has never got a chance to make their own design. Excited to have this opportunity, the couple has now woven multiple designs for artisan collection
Taking inspiration from their children’s textbook of mathematics, the couple-weaver duo has named their rug, ‘Trikonmiti’, which means Trigonometry in Hindi. It is fascinating for them to see how the angles, shapes and formulas come together to create patterns. They have recreated these geometrical designs on the rug. They have taken the design idea from Kalash, an earthen pot found in village home, to weave the center of the rug. They have also woven the patterns inspired from Swastika, a symbol for good fortune, as well as motifs inspired by leaves of the mango tree.
To the owner of the rug “May this rug inspire you to see the beauty in ordinary things.”
