Anu from Deoli, Rajasthan is 30 years old and learned the art of weaving from her brother. She has a son & daughter that go to school, and her husband works as a painter in a factory. After spending a lifetime weaving carpet designs from maps or the same old traditional designs, she was keen on weaving a design of her own, a Manchaha. When she completed the first one, she couldn’t wait to get started on the next and express her art
Dekha-Dekhi‘Dekha-Dekhi’ roughly translates to ‘to see’. Anu says that she has woven a lot of rugs from things that inspired her. But for this Manchaha, she wanted to add snippets of the visuals she sees everyday and that which attracts her attention. She has woven in the design of the new bedsheet she had bought during Diwali, the pattern of the blouse she was wearing on a particular day, and as we move upwards, prints of her saree and even wall hangings at home are woven in.
