Rajjo is our weaver from the small village of Thanagazi in Rajasthan. She started learning the art of weaving rugs from her elder sister when she was 19 years old and has been weaving rugs from past 11 years now. She has a big family of 12 members including her husband, three children and in-laws. Currently, due to some health issues she is not keeping well and her family supports her in all possible ways that they can. “My kids love me the most and they never forget to give me my medicines on time”, she says with a little smile on her face.
SafarnamaThe rug, safarnama or the story of my journey is a portrait of all those things that our weaver Rajjo saw on her way to a neighboring city. During her trip, she got glimpses of two horses and a lot of trees. She instantly decided that she will weave them on her manchaha. Further, she saw a structure of two buildings and that too got a place in Rajjo’s manchaha. “The thought of ‘what to weave’ didn’t leave me alone for a minute, it was with me for every place I visited and everything I did”, explains Rajjo with a shy smile.
