Baburam and Mahaveer are inmates at the Bikaner Central Jail and have woven Manchaha rugs under the prisoners’ rehabilitation program. They both wove a Manchaha together as they first learned from others and were ready to start creating their own designs. Coming from different guides, their designs mix and merge their perspectives in unison.
ZameenFor their first Manchaha, Baburam and Mahaveer were learning how to tie knots. They kept at it over and over for many days, till they finally got the hang of it and slowly began trying out patterns. ‘Zameen’ which translates to ‘a piece of land’, depicts how Baburam and Mahaveer toiled everyday, similar to how a farmer works on his fields every day to tend their crops. From working hard regularly, the rug turned out to show a field that’s ready for crop, ready for a house to bloom into a home.
