Rakesh & Mukhesh are from Dausa, Rajasthan. They are weavers with the prisoners’ rehabilitation project. They picked up weaving by intently watching the other more experienced weavers in the program and prefer pattern designs. They started participating in the program to learn something new, and wanted that new skill to differentiate them from others. They are calm, simple-minded, and observant.
Khula AasmanThis rug shows Rakesh and Mukesh’s depiction of what their days of reminiscence looks like, when they could lay on the roof and look at the skyline of their village. Dotted with temples, mosques, and buildings, and kites flying and stars at night, ‘Khula Aasman’, which means ‘open sky’ is how they took themselves back to those days. You will see multiple simple yet deeply personal motifs that are close to the hearts of these experienced weavers.
