Ramu is 35 years old and has been weaving rugs for the past one and a half months. He is a father of two sons and hails from a small village of Bikaner. He has been sentenced to life-time imprisonment and he hopes to soon shift from central jail to open jail. He enjoys spending time on his loom because that sets him free from all the worries and acts as a form of meditation.
Mera safarMera safar which translates to my journey is how Ramu describes his rug. He has woven a huge priceless pendant adorning many stones on the top of the rug to depict a robbery. Using a handy color palette which majorly includes darker shades of brown and maroon are used across various sections of the rug. In addition to that, he has also woven camels, elephants, spades, betel leaves and lotuses. He says, “I have woven my journey into the rug. A turn of events brought me here but one day I will go out and spend time with nature.”
