An inmate at the Bikaner Central Jail, Ashok has woven his first Manchaha rug during the prisoner’s rehabilitation program. His time at the jail has allowed him the time to reflect back on his life, the lessons he has learnt so far, and connect to nature again, even to its dark side.
TheraavAshok’s rug, named ‘Kadavi Meethi’, means ‘bitter sweet’, something that most of us can relate to when it comes to certain experiences of our life. He has woven in small details like paper boats, milk cans, buildings that he sees around, hourglass, and mirrors with little smileys on them, along with matkas and even a big mountain. The mountain is to signify adventure in the desert and the harshness nature can inflict sometimes. But we must learn to appreciate both its beautiful and dark side, as Ashok’s rug conveys.
