Vahid Khan has been imprisoned for the past 10 years, 4 years still remains. Because of his dedication and sincerity towards rug weaving, he recently got shifted from central jail to open jail. He narrates his journey in his own style which goes like this- “When I shifted from Central jail to open jail, I was desperately in need of a work. I found out where is Jaipur Rugs company and decided to visit. Initially, the guard didn’t let me enter. Soon, the founder of the company came to meet me. He asked a few questions & told me that I'll get the work. I am very happy because I am able to sustain the expenses of me and my family and my needs are getting fulfilled.” He is truly a role model for other inmates who too wish to do something good for their family as an atonement.
Imaarat The rug Imaarat or building is inspired from a big building that caught the attention of Vahid during his tenure in Jaipur Central Jail. “I made a structure of bricks and stones just the way I saw it making nearby the jail. I also topped my rug red chilly to protect it from evil eye”, he says with a huge burst of laughter. Full of vivacity, charm and elegance this rug has certainly made Vahid proud of his creation.
