Dhafali is a 50-year-old weaver from Aaspura, Rajasthan. She developed an interest in weaving from her husband, after marriage. Most of her inspirations for Manchaha is from her surroundings, which the rural folk easily connect to. Her family is very fond of comedy shows by local artists on TV, they all sit together and laugh watching it. She says, “When I make rugs, I wish that everyone should always feel happy after just one look at it”. Dhafali’s only desire is of her son getting a good job. She is the best example of a woman with confidence and responsibility.
Machli ka GharDhafali had the opportunity to visit the Jaipur Rugs showroom in Mumbai and was amazed by the aquarium there, about how fish can live inside a glass box. After multiple failed attempts of making it at home, she finally weaved her aquarium instead of making one. The different colors are the base, with mud, grass, pebbles and different flowers that she tried putting in the glass box, while the brown color on the top refers to the mud which she used to grow green plants. Each box is her attempt to draw aquatic life which could survive. Take away this curious experiment to your house and let your place feel like the child around.
